Charles
L. Mauro
President
and Founder

Mr.
Mauro holds a MS in Human Factors Engineering from New York University.
At NYU he was a NIOSH research fellow at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation
medicine. He has received grants and fellowships from the Ford Foundation,
National Institute Occupational Safety and Health, and The National Endowment
for the Arts. Since 1975 he has been President of MauroNewMedia a leading
provider of professional usability engineering and high performance user
interface design consulting services. Prior to forming MNM he worked directly
with product design pioneers Henry Dreyfus and Raymond Loewy. During Détente
he managed the first product development program undertaken by a U.S.
firm for the Soviet Ministry of Science and Technology. He has been directly
responsible for research and development of numerous mission-critical
user interfaces including design of primary trading systems used on the
floor of the New York Stock Exchange. His experience spans more than 25
years and includes consumer, commercial, military and aerospace applications.
He consults on a regular basis with Fortune 500 clients and leading start-ups.
Mr. Mauro has received numerous citations and awards including the Alexander
C. Williams Award from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and citations
from NASA and Association of Computing Machines (ACM). He has served on
many national and international panels and has chaired 2 ANSI standards
committees. Mr. Mauro also served on the Presidential Design Awards Program
for the NEA and was a founding member of the Human Factors Society Special
Interest Group on Consumer Products.
Mr.
Mauro consults on a regular basis with leading corporate CEOs on strategic
issues of screen-based customer experience design, usability, interactive
brand development and fixed to virtual migration of products and services.
He has been accepted in federal court as an expert witness for design
patents, trade dress and other intellectual property issues related to
user interface design. He holds many US and international patents. Mr.
Mauro is widely published in the professional and popular literature and
has been quoted in Fortune, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, Science,
and other leading business publications. He routinely speaks at national
and international conferences on design, usability and web development.
Mr. Mauro lectures at leading Graduate programs including: MIT Sloan School,
Stanford, and other engineering and MBA programs. His first major book
"Usability: the Bottom Line" will be published next year.

Stephen I. Kutner

Stephen
I. Kutner is a founding partner and President of Market Innovations, Inc.,
a consulting firm that helps organizations transform business creativity
into economic advantage through the disciplined use of market experimentation,
behavioral and economic modeling, and decision science. Since 1978, he has
advised clients, both domestically and internationally, across a wide range
of industries including financial services (commercial banking, consumer,
credit cards, insurance and investment management segments), telecommunications,
computers, consumer (packaged goods, electronics, and durable segments),
retail, heavy manufacturing, and transportation. Mr.Kutner works with clients
to improve performance by helping them create a deeper understanding of
customers and economics, develop customer-focused strategies, and align
the organization to implement these strategies. His recent work has focused
on the design, experimentation, and optimization of market innovations for
maximizing customer value. He has directed significant engagements in product
and channel innovation, marketing mix optimization, and customer experience
design and evaluation. Recent accomplishments include:
- Designing new business models, value propositions and offers for a
market leader in the life, pensions and investment markets
- Designing new offers, value propositions, brand positioning, pricing
mechanisms and organizational structure for a U.K. financial institution.
- Designing a network economic model for evaluating the impact of new
customer experience choreography for a large domestic retail financial
services network.
- Designing customer segmentations, evaluation methodologies, and segment-based
strategies including segment-specific value propositions for a global
investment products organization.
- Developing domestic and international pricing strategies for flat
rate, usage based, and bundled value propositions for a global communications
company.
- Creating an information-based strategy to build customer loyalty and
increase returns on investments in customers, for one of Europe’s largest
cellular operators.
- Creating sophisticated consumer targeting capabilities and models
to reduce acquisition costs, customize product offerings and improve
overall returns from direct marketing efforts for a major credit card
issuer.
- Defining several market entry strategies for operators in the fixed
line, wireless, and calling card business. These engagements included
business planning, development of marketing strategies and international
cost comparisons.
Before founding Market Innovations, Mr. Kutner was the Managing Partner
in Boston for Corporate Value Associates, a global strategy consulting firm
based in London. Prior to CVA, he was a partner and Vice President at Mercer
Management Consulting. He also was a director of the strategic marketing
center for Monitor Company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kutner was an assistant
professor of economics at the Boston University School of Management.

Deborah J. Mayhew, Ph.D.

Dr.
Deborah J. Mayhew is an internationally recognized author, teacher, speaker
and consultant on software user interface design and usability engineering.
She has been Owner and Principal Consultant of Deborah J. Mayhew & Associates,
a consulting firm offering a wide variety of services related to usability
engineering, since 1986, when she became one of the first independent
consultants in her field. Clients have included IBM, AT&T, John Hancock
Insurance Co., GE, Hewlett-Packard, Ford Motor Co., GTE, American Express,
Apple, American Airlines, Texas Instruments, NASA, the National Cancer
Institute, The New York City Police Department, Computer Sciences Corp.
(CSC), Cisco Systems, and many others. Over her 20 years in the field
of usability engineering, Dr. Mayhew has consulted to companies in many
diverse industries on the design of products based on a wide range of
technology platforms including mainframe computers with "dumb terminals",
GUIs, medical technology, manufacturing equipment and Web sites and applications.
Dr.
Mayhew holds a B.A. in Psychology from Brown University, an M.A. in Experimental
Psychology from the University of Denver and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology
from Tufts University. Dr. Mayhew has authored or co-authored four books
on topics in usability engineering. Her most recent book is The Usability
Engineering Lifecycle. Another popular book is Cost-Justifying Usability,
co-edited with Randolph G. Bias.

Joanna Peters

Peters has over fifteen years of experience helping a variety of Fortune
500 firms build and reconfigure businesses globally. She has held senior
positions at Citigroup, American Express and the ABN Bank, and she has
served clients in the US as well as Asia, Australia, The Sub Continent,
Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Ms.
Peters has extensive experience integrating business units, with a specialty
in roll-ups and consolidations. She has in depth knowledge of the world's
financial markets as they relate to high net worth, consumer banking,
and investments. She has a strong skill set in underlying business analysis.
Ms. Peters' expertise brings critical resources to early stage business
initiatives, in particular, solving and reconfiguring complex business
and legal structures in highly volatile and dynamic markets. She builds
strategic alliances with global and local providers and re-engineers business
processes and controls. Ms. Peters builds client solutions based on customer
relationship management principles.
Ms.
Peters received a Bachelor of Law with Honors from the University of Melbourne,
Australia and completed graduate work in EC Competition Policy and Chinese
Law at the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental Studies,
London University. She also is admitted to the Bar in Australia as well
as in New York .

Corrado Ronchi, Ph.D

Dr.
Ronchi holds a Master's degree in theoretical physics from "La Sapienza"
University of Rome (Italy) and a Ph.D. in computational and applied physics
from Cornell University (NY, USA). Dr. Ronchi holds several international
patents and has conducted academic research for several years, publishing
over 20 articles in international refereed journals, and lecturing at
leading scientific institutions and international conferences. Prior to
his current occupation, Dr. Ronchi has worked for leading global corporations,
such as AT&T, Cisco Systems, and Telecom Italia.
Dr.
Ronchi consults on a regular basis with leading European and USA corporations
on strategic issues concerning high technologies applied to Internet-based
business models and business-critical software applications. Dr. Ronchi's
expertise is focused on meeting critical e-com business objectives in
cross-cultural applications with a special focus on US / European screen-based
delivery systems. His background includes extensive experience in numerous
critical industries including telecommunications, consumer products and
financial services.

Nicholas M. Simonelli, Ph.D.

Dr.
Simonelli has over 20 years of experience in his own consulting business
and Fortune 500 companies in the Human Factors Engineering and Product
Usability specialties. He played a key role in expanding the usability
research visibility at the 3M Company and later established a software
usability lab at Prodigy Internet. His practice has included conducting
focus group research and product usability research; designing user-computer
interfaces; creating and managing usability labs; rapid prototyping; developing
research programs; and increasing company awareness of ergonomics/human
factors issues. His company has experience conducting international research.
An early
advocate of the collaboration between the Human Factors Engineering and
Industrial Design disciplines, he organized and chaired Interface 85,
the Fourth Symposium on Human Factors and Industrial Design in Consumer
Products in St. Paul, MN. On the leading edge of the personal computer
revolution, he founded a company specializing in software for Commodore
home computers, creating and publishing TaxWare, a tax preparation software
for the Commodore 64.
Dr.
Simonelli received his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, magna
cum laude. After a tour in the US Peace Corps he entered the graduate
college of the University of Illinois, joining the Aviation Research Lab
in the Psychology Department's Engineering Psychology program. Program
participants flew research airplanes, flight simulators, and conducted
research into flight control and other user interface issues. While there,
he received the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Best Student
Paper award, was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, and received
the George E. Briggs Award from the American Psychological Association
for the best doctoral dissertation of the year. He chaired the Consumer
Products Technical Group of the HFES and edited its newsletter, cp news.
He has been an associate editor of the magazine Ergonomics in Design since
its founding in 1992. He holds CPE designation (Certified Professional
Ergonomist) from the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.
Dr.
Simonelli is a member of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the
Usability Professionals Association and has authored 14 ergonomics publications.

Paul W. Thurman
Professor

Mr.
Thurman has over ten years of experience helping a variety of Fortune
500 firms realize value from innovative and coordinated business, operations,
and technology strategies. He has held senior positions at Booz-Allen
& Hamilton, Mitchell Madison Group, and American Express, and he has served
clients on five continents. He has consulted to a number of financial
services, health care, insurance, and consumer products firms across a
broad set of disciplines.
Mr.
Thurman's consulting work has focused mostly on customer segmentation,
demand modeling, profitability, and experience mapping. He has also developed
solutions around corporate cost management, technology and business integration,
and analytical modeling to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Mr.
Thurman received a BS in Mathematics with Honors from Stanford University
and completed graduate work in Mathematics, Statistics, and Operations
Research at New York University. He also received an MBA from Columbia
University where he graduated valedictorian and received the distinguished
service award. Mr. Thurman is currently a Professor in the Executive MBA
and Global MBA Programs at the Columbia, the University of California,
Berkeley, and the London Business Schools where he teaches courses in
management and management science to senior executives. He also coordinates
all aspects of Executive MBA student research and project/master's thesis
work. Finally, Mr. Thurman is on the Board of Directors of a New York-based
charity and sits on the Advisory Board of a number of entrepreneurial
ventures including a K-12 education-focused venture capital and consulting
firm and a cancer drug development and marketing alliance.
