Carol Righi
Carol
Righi is president of Righi
Interface Engineering, Inc. She has worked in the area of human-computer
interaction since 1984, and currently specializes in interaction design,
usability testing, and training. Dr. Righi has designed user interfaces
for the World Wide Web, and for desktop, kiosk, and mainframe applications.
She has planned and conducted extensive data gathering activities, has
developed many educational offerings, and has trained hundreds of students,
including numerous multidisciplinary design teams. Dr. Righi has written
extensively in the area of human-computer interaction, usability, and
UCD, and has presented at numerous professional meetings worldwide. She
is a co-author of "User-Centered
Design: An Integrated Approach." She is a member of the Usability
Professional's Association; SIGCHI, the human-factors special interest
group of the Association for Computing Machinery; and the Usability
Consortium. She serves on the advisory council for a popular user-centered
design discussion group. Dr. Righi's past positions have included consultant
for the IBM Usability Engineering consulting group; manager of the usability
evaluation department of IBM's Personal Software Products division; manager
of academic user services at Teachers College, Columbia University; and
guest lecturer in research methods at the Weizmann Institute of Science,
Rehovot, Israel, among others.
Dr. Righi's most recent
activities have included the following:

- Intranet interaction
design, curriculum architecture, course development, and training for
IBM
- Tutorial and web
interaction design for a leading standardized test developer
- Multimedia kiosk
design for a major American automobile manufacturer
- Numerous web site
evaluations for several Fortune 100 companies
Dr. Righi received
her undergraduate degree in psychology in 1981 and her Ph.D. in school/educational
psychology in 1988, both from Fordham University in New York City. Her
concentration in graduate school was in computer applications to education.
